An issue of Pride

This weekend I took my kids to the Pride parade. We are fortunate to live in a diverse city neighborhood and the parade was practically on our doorstep. We were walking toward the spot where we watch the parade with some neighbors and my 7 year old daughter asked me what the parade was for. I explained a little bit about Pride and gay rights and same-sex marriage.

"I want to marry a girl someday." My daughter declared.
"That's great, hopefully by the time you are old enough to get married, it won't be an issue and you can marry whomever you want."
"Well, I might want to marry a boy instead, I don't know yet."
"That's fine too, you can marry whomever you want."

And she skipped ahead.
And that's the way it should be. My 7 year old is still developing her identity on every level. I would hate to pigeon hole her one way or another right now.

If any or all of my children turned out to be gay that would be a-OK with me.
I just want them to be happy, fulfilled, authentic people.

I just don't see the issue here.
